like a rhinestone cowboy

Nudie Cohn hopped onto US soil back when he was 11 from the Ukraine. He collected his earnings traveling around as a shoe shine boy, boxer and other odd jobs  for years . At one fateful pit stop at a boarding house in Minnesota , he met his future wife Bobbie.

He and Bobbie married in the beginning of the 1940s, and had a baby girl named Barbara.
They traveled to New York City where Nudie was designing stripper and showgirls unmentionables.
He had to start somewhere with those rhinestones!

The Nudie family moved out to sunny southern Californa.Nudie Suits were born in a garage but eventually moved into a private studio in North Hollywood
Nudie and Bobbie designed the most interesting and elaborate suits for the ladies and gents of country music.

I've been  listening to alot of Gram Parsons lately. Partially because summer is near, and I like to have my country records spinning, and also a trip to Joshua Tree is in the makes.
If you are curious to know why the common interest of Nudie suits, Gram Parsons and Joshua Tree, check out this trailer for Gram Parsons: Fallen Angel. Whatever you do, DO NOT watch the horrible movie 'Grand Theft Parsons'.

Hank Williams. I just read today that he died in this suit.

naked ladies and large red cross on the back.

It was very painful to post this picture of Ben Harper. I absolutely cringe when a fashion ensemble is not completed properly. Especially when its the beautifully designed Nudie suit. And to finish off the look is a pair of insulting sneakers.
I have seen to many performance artists wear really rad performance gear, and they you look down and you see a pair of old man white sneakers.
How hard is it to just slip on some boots or some nice leather shoes!

I'm speechless! I've never seen clothes as fabulous in my freaking life. Ben Harper may be hot but yep, decent footwear, please! xxx

I'm going to buck the trend and show my bad taste here by saying, I happen to love me some sneakers on a man. Can't help it, I came of age in the 90s and that shit lives on with me. Those are some faaaaaaaaaancy jewelled garments.

Kerry this is AMAAAZING! I had no idea about this dude, but it sure does make that old school cowboy aesthetic make a lot of sense.

Totally gonna check out that Gram Parsons film :-)

There are so many other people that I should of put up. Sonny and Cher, Jeff Tweedy, Dwight Yoakam, Mike Nesmith (post monkees) and he looked damn fine! So many people wore Nudie suits, the list goes on forever. I am inspired to find the perfect embroidered jacket, or pants would be the ultimate and bedazzle them..
Oh Gram <3 you made it look so good.. damn him.
